Bay Trail Map 10 (Alameda & Oakland) is quickly getting out of date with all of the developments in Alameda, particularly along the Northern Waterfront. A better reference for the time being is our very own Active Transportation Plan Bay Trail map, on page 52, shown here with some highlights added and described below.
From west to east:
- New waterfront Bay Trail at Bohol Circle Immigrant Park, including a really new section that opened at the end of July that extends further west, in front of the newly-built homes. A little spur on the western edge is in the works and will connect the waterfront trail to Mitchell Ave.
- Years off still, but making steady progress is a planned segment just north of the old Del Monte building (now Star Harbor). This development required a land swap with the state, AB 1706, just signed by Governor Newsom in late July. When done, it will add a nice chunk of waterfront Bay Trail to the system.
- The segment that’s shown as complete near the development at Alameda Marina is not yet complete, but is coming along. A temporary trail is to be installed by the developer this year in front of the new “Launch” section, and city staff said they will be removing the gate that separates this segment from the Grand Marina and Bay Trail to the west soon!
- As part of the Clement Avenue and Tilden Way project, approved by City Council earlier this year, we’ll be getting a connection from the waterfront Bay Trail just north of the Bridgeside Shopping Center to the Cross Alameda Trail where it connects to the bridge.
- As part of the Fruitvale Alive! Project, which is well under way now, the City of Oakland is building a connection to the waterfront Bay Trail on the north side of the estuary to Alameda Avenue.
- This is on the Oakland side, too, and unrelated to any Alameda developments, but our understanding is that Caltrans will be working on Doolittle next year, potentially including improvements for bicyclists to this stretch. If so, this will be a major step in terms of connectivity with MLK Regional Shoreline.
