We believe the City of Alameda and the City of Oakland should create real biking and walking options that exist between West Alameda and Oakland. A bicycle and pedestrian bridge is the only option that would provide 24×7, convenient, enjoyable and reliable access for everyone.
This solution would:
- Reduce traffic congestion through and around the Webster and Posey tubes
- Provide access to BART and Amtrak for Alameda’s West End residents
- Generate new recreational opportunities for residents on both sides of the estuary
- Increase patronage for local businesses in Jack London Square, Alameda Landing and on Webster Street
- Promote healthy lifestyles
- Reduce drive-alone trips
- Decrease emissions and improve air quality
- Connect communities and better showcase the estuary
