On May 12, Bike Walk Alameda celebrated its most successful Bike to Work Day yet! Nearly 1,300 cyclists stopped by our six energizer stations, and more than 100 BTWD participants and family members joined our after-party at Speisekammer. So many people participated in this year’s event that we gave away every one of our signature Bike to Work Day totes! See more Bike to Work Day photos.
Over the years, Bike to Work Day has become one of Bike Walk Alameda’s most prominent efforts for promoting cycling as a safe and enjoyable way to get to work. As Alameda’s population grows and changes to include new families who are looking for alternatives to a grueling car commute, successful events like Bike to Work Day are more important than ever.
Making our Bike to Work Day event happen is a massive undertaking, and we’ve got lots of people to thank. Our list starts with Bike Walk Alameda program coordinator Heather Cunningham, who did a superb job managing the event. We’d also like to thank the City of Alameda for sponsoring the event, Tim Lewis Communities for sponsoring the after-party and Speisekammer for hosting, along with Hal Keenan for providing secure bike parking.
Finally, we’d like to thank everyone who volunteered to help out with the event. We couldn’t have done it without you!
