Bike Walk Alameda is asking city leaders to make safe streets and permanent West End transit options priorities in the city’s new transit and transportation demand management plans, and we’re asking you to join the chorus of voices supporting these changes.
On Monday, Bike Walk Alameda president Lucy Gigli sent a letter to the commission asking them to revise a proposed goal to put the brakes on increased rush hour traffic to include language clearly identifying permanent transit options for the Island’s car-clogged West End. With traffic fatalities on the rise nationwide, the letter also asked the commission to consider creating a new goal to reduce traffic fatalities in Alameda to zero.
If you support these changes, send an e-mail to commission members today care of City Clerk Lara Weisiger, at lweisiger@alamedaca.gov.
You can also show your support by attending the commission meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday night. Read the full text of Bike Walk Alameda’s letter and the staff report for the meeting.
